This book is about the Perceval family, the assassinated Prime Minister Spencer Perceval, his wife Jane Wilson and their twelve children.
The lives of the six sons and six daughters illuminate many aspects of the time. In several cases they were exceptional, sometimes tragic.
Between them they provide a record of the society they helped to forge, their impact on the nineteenth century and it on them.
“This is a rare historical work, a family history with an enthralling theme: how a family … worked, loved, suffered and survived in a century of social revolution, empire-building and rapidly growing problems of poverty and deprivation.”
